Ingredients

 1 gallon medium sized cucumbers, (5 pounds)

 6-12 large onions, (3 pounds)

 2 large chopped green pepper, (1 1/2 cups)

 ½ cup pickling salt

 5 cups sugar

 4 cups vinegar

 2 tablespoons mustard seed

 1 ½ teaspoons turmeric

 1 ½ teaspoons celery seed

 ½ teaspoon ground cloves

Method

Thinly slice cucumbers and onions. In large bowl combine cucumbers, onion, green pepper and salt. Mix well. Cover and chill 3 hours. Drain vegetables. Rinse well in cold water. Drain well. Combine remaining ingredients in large saucepan and bring to a boil. Add vegetables and return to boil and take off burner. Pack in sterilized jars and process in hot water bath for 5 minutes for pints.
