Ingredients
1 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1-2 teaspoons water
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon almond extract
Pastry for two-crust pie
6 medium apples, pared and cored.
Method
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Pour sweetened condensed milk into 9-inch pie plate. Cover with aluminum foil; place in shallow pan. Fill pan with hot water. Bake 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until thick and light-caramel colored. Remove from oven.
2. Add water, cinnamon and extract. Set aside.
3. Reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees. Prepare pie crust. Divide pastry into 6 portions; roll each to a 6-inch square. Place an apple in center of each square. Bring corners of pastry to center of apple; pinch edges together to seal. Place in shallow baking dish; bake 40 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve with warm Caramel Sauce.
