Ingredients

DOUGH

 1 egg, beaten

 1 8 ounce carton sour cream

 2 cups flour

 2 tablespoons sugar

 2 teaspoons baking powder

 ¼ teaspoon soda

 ¼ teaspoon salt

FILLING

 4 cups thinly sliced peeled apples

 ¼ cup sugar

 ½ teaspoon cinnamon

 ¼ teaspoon nutmeg

TOPPING

 1 ½ cups water

 1 ¼ cups brown sugar

 1 cup sugar

 2 tablespoons cornstarch

 2 tablespoons lemon juice

 2 tablespoons butter

light cream or ice cream

Method

Dough: In medium bowl combine egg and sour cream. In a small bowl mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. Add to sour cream mixture and mix well. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to a 12 inch square.

Filling: Spread apples on top of dough. Mix the white sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg and sprinkle atop apples. Carefully roll up dough and cut into 12 1″ slices. Place cut side down in a greased 9×13″ pan.

Topping: Stir together water, brown sugar, white sugar, cornstarch and lemon juice. Pour over slices in pan. Dot with butter.

Bake uncovered in 350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes until golden. Serve by spooning warm dumplings into individual dishes and serve with light cream or ice cream.
