Ingredients
COOKIES
1 cup melted shortening
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon soda
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 squares melted chocolate, or 1 1/2 cups cocoa
CHOCOLATE COOKIE ICING
3 tablespoons butter, melted
2 squares chocolate
2 ⅓ cups powdered sugar
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
¼ cup cream or evaporated milk
Method
Cookies:
Beat eggs, add sugar, beat well.
Add melted shortening, cocoa (or chocolate squares) and vanilla.
Mix well.
Add to this in alternating step the buttermilk with soda and then the flour.
Chill at least 2 hours or overnight.
Drop by teaspoons onto greased sheet and bake 12 minutes at 325 to 350 degrees.
Icing
Melt butter and chocolate over low heat.
Add powdered sugar, vanilla and
cream.
Let stand 5-10 minutes after mixing.
Ice the chocolate drop cookies before they cool thoroughly.
