1. In a large bowl thoroughly mix 2 cups flour, sugar, salt and dry yeast.

2. Combine water, milk and butter in saucepan.
|
|
3. Heat over low heat until warm (butter need not melt.)
|
|
4. Gradually ad to dry ingredients and beat with mixer at medium speed for 2 minutes.

5. Add cracked wheat (Mom used whole wheat flour.)
|
|
6. Beat 2 minutes more.
|
|
7. Stir in enough additional flour to make soft dough.
|
|
8. Turn on floured board and knead 8-10 minutes using as much flour as necessary.
|
|
9. Place in greased bowl turning to grease top.
|
|
10. Let rise in warm place until doubled (1 hour approx.)
|
|
11. Punch down and let rest 15 minutes.
|
|
12. Divide and put into greased loaf pans.
|
|
13. Raise 1 hour.
|
|
14. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
